Jubilee of Prisoners

The Jubilee of Prisoners is an event of profound significance within the context of the Jubilee of Mercy, proclaimed by Pope Francis in 2015. This special moment is dedicated to incarcerated individuals, offering them an opportunity for reconciliation, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal.

During the Jubilee of Prisoners, a series of meetings, liturgical celebrations, and prayer moments are organized within correctional facilities. These activities aim to provide spiritual comfort, hope, and support to prisoners, encouraging them to reflect on their actions, repent of their mistakes, and embark on a path of conversion and inner reform.

This event provides prisoners with the opportunity to experience God’s mercy and love even behind bars. Through prayer, confession, and participation in religious celebrations, prisoners are encouraged to reconcile with God and themselves, finding hope and dignity even in the most challenging circumstances.

The Jubilee of Prisoners is also an opportunity to reflect on the reality of the prison system and the challenges prisoners face during and after their incarceration. Awareness and commitment to restorative justice and the social reintegration of prisoners are promoted, encouraging solidarity and support from the community.

This event testifies to the Church’s commitment to bringing hope and comfort to even the darkest and most forgotten places in society. Through the Jubilee of Prisoners, the Church invites everyone to recognize the dignity and worth of every person, including those who have made mistakes, and to work together for the reform of the prison system and the promotion of justice and mercy.
